It Scares People When You Grow

  • Have you ever heard: “You’ve changed…I remember when you use to…You use to never… Oh, you think you special now?””
  • What’s odd is that we typically hear something like this when we’re doing something good in our lives. We’re stretching ourselves. We’re growing. Were making progress.
  • Our response is like, what? I’m doing something good with my life and you have a problem with it?
  • The truth is, and it’s a hard truth, is that it can scare some people when we grow and move forward in our lives.
  • That’s right. It scares people when you grow.
  • Why is this? It’s because it makes some people feel like they are being left behind. It can hold up a mirror to what they are not doing in their own lives.
  • So instead of supporting you, encouraging you or rooting for you, they try to cause fights and drama.
  • They say things like, “I just want what’s good for you.”
  • Get clear if they want wants good for you or what’s good for them.
  • What’s can be really tough is that sometimes these people who give you the hardest time are friends and family members.
  • It’s not always friends or family who will have your back. Sometimes it will be that person that you barely know that will support you.
  • Something you’re going to find as you pursue your dreams is that sometimes the people who support you the most, know you the least.
  • Sometimes the people who open up doors, support you and encourage you will know you the least.
  • Of course we would like to think family and friends would have our back but that’s not always the case. Don’t let that stop you from moving forward.
  • Everyone won’t go on your journey with you. Everyone won’t join you in your next chapter.  And, don’t let this hold you back.
  • Sometimes you have to walk alone until you find your tribe.
  • Yes, it can scare people when you grow. But don’t let their lack of support scare you.
